So far I didn’t have time to start the book, even tough the weather would have been perfect for it.

I have absolutely no idea what to expect. However I am really looking forward to delving into this world. I do expect some twists and turns along the way, people not being who they pretend/seem to be at first sight…maybe a rebellion mixed into it as well? Aaand..I am really curious why the leaders of Scion need Paige so desperately/were looking for her…and why they would entrust her with some kind of mission,…even though their whole system has these rules about “unnatural” people not being allowed to live… well, anyways, that is what I gathered so far from reading the synopsis.

Also, wanted to note that I like the cover…

Will try to start tomorrow, yay!

FlakiM As I‘m currently love the plots, the sarcasm and wild fights of the Library-Series as also the fantastic new ideas about Fae and Dragons - Not to forget about the beauyfull english it’s written in - I‘m pretty sceptic if to compare would be fair… I free my mind! 🤗

FlakiM Hi there. The timetable couldn’t be real, because I received the book just last weekend! How can I then skip in 3 or 4 days to over 100 pages? Went there something wrong? Couldn’t you imagine that some of us have little time to read? I am somehow disappointed.

Regarding the story: I am not very thrilled about, because themes like fantasy or crime/thrillers aren’t my piece of cake. But maybe a plot in the near future could be interesting. Until now I read only Matt Haig’s novels and couldn’t get used to such a mystical world. Even though I am somehow curious about this novel. 🤓😕😒

I’m not thet far into the book yet and i have to admit thet i am not quite sure if i’ll be able to reat to 173 till Friday. I just have really much on my agenda this week.

But i still would like to share my first impression of the books. First of all i love the fantasy world samantha has built. She gets an extra point for taking London as main city, since i am a big fan of London. I also like the Characters so far. I also hope and expect a good slow-burn romance. What i also Hope is that there will not be so much spice, since personally i am not a fan of that.

In the few pages i’ve read, the story managed to completely pull me in. I only stopped reading when i my eyes started to close on their own. However i do sometimes have trouble with the writing. Or less with the writing and more with some of the words. English is not my native language so i’m having troubles with all the different “sorts” of clairvoyants and what those names mean. But i am sure that i will grow accustomed to them over time. 🙂

Just finished the first chapter and of course Samantha Shannon’s writing is as immersive as ever. Not sure I vibe with the main character’s sense of humour, though. I’m really looking forward to the worldbuilding, since Shannon’s books always give me something to completely sink my teeth into (and this book comes with a glossary, too, which is really just the dream).

I finished my current book, I can start with The Bone Season tomorrow. I have never heard or read anything from this author before, it’s like a blank canvas. I’m open to diving into this new world and discovering a seldom-read genre.

I really really enjoy Samantha Shannon’s writing style. Although she writes mainly fantasy books her language is easy to understand which slso makes the story easier to follow!

Hey there! Don’t worry at all, these times just “open” the discussion days and if we mutually realise and agree we can always adjust the schedule. Either way, this is not a strict time that you’d have to adhere to. It’s important that everyone reads in their own pace in order to keep the reading expierence enjoyable! But this helps us with organising the post a little. If you find yourself behind on time, there is no pressure into catching up. You pop into the conversation whenever you can 🙂

I hope you will find a way to enjoy the book later on. Sometimes I love the storylines and messages of books but not necessarily the fantasy-part of it! It happens in any context so it’s still interesting to try out new things ☺️

I had the day off today and was planning to read only a few chapters and then do some stuff around the house… Alas, I have read the entirety of the first 173 pages today and have done nothing around the house, that speaks to how much this book pulled me in 😂

I love the writing style and am very immersed in the story, however, am still quite confused about the “magic system”. I’m hoping I’ll get the hang of it soon. I also have a bit of a hard time growing an attachement to our leading lady and I can’t put a finger on the why. Anyone else feel this way?

Anyways, I’m looking forward to discussing with you guys 😊

Sarisa im on chapter 5 now i think and now getting pulled in by the story. i also have some trouble with the main character to be honest and hope that will change when i read more. since the story is only starting where i am at i have high hopes for it. so far i like the writing style and where the story is set. i havent read a fantasy book where the characters have the types of abilities they do here so im very curious to learn more about their powers and how they can use them.

I have mentioned previously that there is no pressure to follow the schedule strictly. The date you are “supposed” to read the pages is merely the day we start discussing that part. It is more important that everyone enjoys the book!

I am completely with you on the spicy part, it’s not really my thing either but I have to admit I am not sure anymore if the book has any spicy part in it? I do remember a romantic subplot but not quite sure how “far” they went 😃

Fantasy books tend to have really complicated words and the tendency to over complicate simple sentences but Samantha Shannon does a pretty good job not to overdo it! It is also a fantastic opportunity to widen your english vocabulary so make sure to take notes!

Generally speaking if anyone has troubles with definitions of words, feel free to add it to our discussion so we can all help each other! It’s an amazing learning opportunity for everyone 🙂

I have given this some thought while reading and figured it’s a great question for everyone?

Is it important for you, as reader, to like the main character? Or do you even enjoy disliking them?

Coincidentally, I read a couple of books this year where I actually disliked the main character(s) A LOT but I loved the different approach - some MC’s are not meant to be liked. It also moves aways from the same narrative you encounter with lots of books..

FlakiM For me personally i don’t mind it if i don’t like the main character. I have also read some Books with despicable Leads (Catherine from Wuthering Heights🫠) but still loved the books anyways because it was something new for once. I get annoyed by Characters that i wouldn’t like in real Life but if there is a good Story i will read the book anyway. Especially this early in the book i can’t fully judge the Main Character so maybe i’m gonna take back everything i said😂

Although my absolute favourite books are all books where I adore the main charachter, I don‘t necessarily need to like them to like a book. I agree, that there are great books where the main character isn‘t supposed to be liked. However, for me to consider it a great book, the main character has to invoke some kind of feeling from me. It doesn‘t matter wether it‘s like, dislike, annoyance or the mixture of them all. But if a character leaves me indifferent throughout the whole book, then I usually don‘t enjoy the experience as much…

I think that depends on the story. in most books i like the main character. Most times when the main character really annoyed me, i just stopped reading because i would get frustrated. oops

FlakiM I don’t need to like the main character of a story, as long as they are interesting. I loved to hate Jorg Ancrath from The Broken Empire trilogy. I also have my issues with Locke Lamora, but Red Seas under Red Skies is my absolute favourit book ever.

But when the plot is mediocre, I struggle with unrelatable characters. Vicious from V.E. Schwab felt like a chore, and I fear Paige is not making this book an easy read for me. Although, I will defenitely pick up Mime Order as I am very curious to learn more about Jaxon Hall.
