Fanny Hey! I only started yesterday reading the book, and I almost couldn’t put it down (had to eventually, had to get up early today 😉).
I really liked the siblings from the start, especially since they are all “flawed” in one or the other way (Nina is to nice, Hud and Jay don’t tell important things, etc.). I liked that you only get to know them bit by bit, and not their whole life story at once. That’s generally something I like about Reid’s writing style, you can guess what happens along the story. In this story it’s the mystery who set the fire, in Daisy Jones why the band broke up and in Seven Husbands how Evelyn and Monique are connected. I like the structure of the book, switching between timelines and characters, but in the beginning you have to be in the matter to get what is happening and when it’s happening.
As I said, I really like the siblings so far, but am angry mostly at Mick, but also at June. This is beacause even at the start of the story, I knew that their love story was ill-fated. I’m angry at June because in the beginning, she maybe was naive, but later in her life she could have made some better choices (get more help, call Mick for the Money, …). In comparison to Billy Dune (a TJR character from the Daisy Jones novel), he isn’t able to control his demons, and I really dislike him for that. I’m exited to find out if Mick makes it to the party or not.
I’ve only surfed once, but I liked this side of the story. You can tell from the writing how important surfing is for every sibling individually, but also to them as family.
Some nice details are in the book, for example the mention of Celia St. James. If you didn’t read the other storys, it doesn’t matter, but as a reader of her other stories, it got a chuckle out of me.
I’m looking forward to the rest of the book, and exited to find about who set the fire.
