Rachel, who is drunk daily, loses her job but travels by train further to not let her flatmate know she has been fired. While sitting on the train she watches all the houses go by, one of which is her favorite. She watches the couple of the house, they being everything she once had, everything she wanted. When one day, she sees something from the train and it changes her life.
I’ve read this book several years ago in german but had forgotten all about the storyline. I quite liked it then and reading it now again, I still like it very much. The story is written diary-like, switching between views of the three women, and it builds up tension as the story goes on. I could not let the book out of my hand for like the last hundred pages.
I wanted to watch the movie too, after reading it, but i kept thinking ’that’s not how it happened!' every other scene so that I got annoyed and therefore didn’t finish the movie.
A thrilling book, highly recommendable!
