Having read the first two books in Craven’s Washington-Poe-series in German, I just couldn’t wait for the translations of books three and four to be released.
Craven once again starts off the case by describing a gruesome scene. He then switches focus and tells the story from Detective Sergeant Washington Poe’s point of view and in chronological order. The numerous chapters are short, the plot is fast paced and laced with riddles. Whenever Poe has solved one, there is an even bigger one waiting. The solution(s) deluded me but trying to figure everything out had me glued to the pages. Plus, it’s the details and of course the main characters that define the series and have me reaching for yet the next book whenever I have finished one.
“The Curator” is for now my absolute favourite!
PS: In case you hadn’t heard of the series yet, start with part one, “The Puppet Show”. Each case is solved by the end of a book, but the character development is best read from the beginning. Plus, there may be spoilers down the line.
