This is a story about a young girl from small village in India and how life kept forcing her to adapt and evolve.
Four names, four different lives: This girl was born as Jyoti, a widow named Jasmine at seventeen years old, a caregiver named Jase and a mother in Iowa named Jane.
This is also a story about migration and what’s it like to be on your own in a foreign country, dependent on people who can decide to help you or destroy your hopes and dreams.
Jasmine met people who helped her and people who pushed her down, but she kept going and she is a remarkable character. This book is beautifully written and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to read a story about personal and national identity, motherhood, migration and trauma!
