Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2009. 📚It is not only a supernatural story, but also portrayal of post war Britain. There is something fascinatingly frightening and terrifying about the book. It makes the reader feel anxious and intimidated. One of the main characters is a doctor, who tells us this horrible ghost story. The Ayres family has problems with their house, Hundreds Hall, and Dr Faraday tries to help them. The events of the book are described so realistically that one believes the story really took place. There is no description of the ghost itself, but the reader can clearly draw a picture in his imagination. The author managed to create suspense and sinister atmosphere. Zitat: ‚ I said, ‚You are cold.‘ But she shook her head. Not cold - frightened.‘ The book makes you shiver. When I was reading it, a shiver went up and down my spine. This thriller is a must-read, in my opinion. 🤭😱👻
