It might be a compilation of short stories set in China about Chinese people, but in the end, it’s a book about being human. Many of the stories are set in the near future and some of them have fantastical elements in them, but nonetheless it isn’t a book only for science fiction-lovers. Because Xia Jia has a wonderful writing style which captivated me from the first page, and I think the translators did a great job. It’s a book for short stories readers, a book for dreamers, for realists, futurists, for all those who love stories about people and their relationship with friends, family and strangers and time. It’s a book that I will definitely reread.
