The Sum of All Fears is praised as a bestseller, one of the reasons why I decided to read it. And I already know the author’s style from previous books. While I have enjoyed the other books about Jack Ryan, this one disappointed me more than anything. Tom Clancy is a master at combining plots but in Sums of All Fears he has overdone it. And with that comes the amount of characters involved, I had problems keeping them apart and connecting them to their purpose in the story. There’s no red thread or I just couldn’t find it. Everything that has a connection to the American military, you will find it here. In the end, I felt it was more hard work than a joyful pleasant read. I have expected more from this named bestseller, maybe next time.
