I didn’t know that if you’re mentally ill you’re allowed to be mean and annoying.I do get why this is a classic. It is in many ways way ahead of its time, depicting mental illnesses in an era of shunning people who do not seem to be “normal”. Most of the time, teenage girls pick this up and it does show the values of not undermining themselves but I wouldn’t give this to anyone under the age of 16.

Although the story was a nightmare to get through, I highly enjoyed the writing style and appreciated the overall flow of the story.
