Sam is the only police officer in a rural town in southern New Zealand. One day her ex-lover reports his wife missing. Sam still isn’t over him, so she has mixed feelings about the city-girl disappearing. But a mother would never leave her toddler alone. So Sam starts to investigate and soon finds the body. The reinforcement from the city suspect she has something to do with the murder and want her off the case. But her ex trusts her to find out the truth.

The style reminded me of an scandinavian thriller, slower in pace, not that bloody, poetic landscape and interesting figures. Of course I enjoyed it even more, as I was looking at those same landscapes while reading.
