Older brother’s best friend.
A billionaire with a revenge plan.
The naïve sunshine.
What could go wrong?
Alright, like everyone else I’ve been on BookTok in the last year. And I’ve probably seen all the books that have gotten the big hype and definitely have read some of them. Now, “Twisted Love” is one of them. So far, those recommendations have had some ups and downs. More downs than ups, but let’s not talk about it (From Blood and Ash). This one is not as bad as “From Blood and Ash” but holy hell, why do these apparently “morally-grey characters” not know what consent is??? One of my best friends has read all four of them and she told me to skip the first one… right now I wish I listened to her. But I also had to continue, because I really wanted to see why so many people actually think this is a good book.
A recap for those who haven’t read this book yet: Tiny sunshine girl falls in love with older brothers best friend, a grumpy billionaire who doesn’t like to have sex in a making love kinda way, but more of an SM kinda way. Already, first huuuge red flag. Because first of all, who tf spells it out that way? No kink shaming, but he makes it sound as if only fuckboys can have sex in a BDSM way, no couples allowed. The first big ick of the book. Also, everyone around Ava thinks she’s naïve and they have to look out for her or whatever. Really condescending. But listen gurl, you should have listened to their advice of not falling in love with Alex. Because he’s a manipulating asshole who’ll just wait until you give up to finally hear a yes. Another big ick. Anyways, I don’t want to spoiler all of you, but heyyy, at least he didn’t force her to have sex with him. That’s good… right? That’s where his big consent-problem comes in. It happens at the end of the book and it really left me so upset. And btw if you really think this is great smut? Honey, come down to the store and I’ll show you some really good shit, because that ain’t it. Really whack.
I don’t know if you’ve gathered it from all my ranting, but I really hated this book. It did not live up to the hype and I’ve read better “older brother’s best friend” on Wattpad. And yeah, his little revenge plan? So unsatisfying and no big plot point, even though it should be.
