My Killer Vacation is about an elementary teacher named Taylor, who wants to spend a few days on holiday with her brother in Cape Cod. But what no one could have expected is that they would find the owner of the their rented house shot in the head. Taylor can no longer think about a relaxing holiday and wants to find out what happened. But she is not the only one, Miles, who is a Bounty Hunter and who she should be afraid of, has been put on the case.
Throughout the book, they investigate the case together despite Miles displeasure as Taylor always brings herself in danger. But not only do they get closer to solving the case, they also get closer to each other…
I was very excited when the book finally arrived because I had seen a lot of good reviews about „My Killer Vacation“. I really was looking forward to read a spicy murder mystery. Because who doesn’t like to read a little mystery in autumn? But already after the first few pages I noticed that I didn’t like it. In my opinion, there are too many clichés and too many coincidences right from the start. And because the book has less than 300 pages, everything has to happen pretty quickly. Which you also felt strongly with the two main characters and their relationship. They go from zero to one hundred within five days. You also feel that because of the few pages you only get to know the characters on the surface and that sometimes you are given too little information. I would like to say more about their relationship, but that would spoil too much.
I’m sorry to say this, but the murder and the solving of the case were not the main focus of the book. There was a lot about it in the first chapters, but as the book went on, it wasn’t as important as the relationship between Miles and Tayler. In my opinion, the plot got lost as the book progressed and at one point in the book, the smut was more important than the actual story. The promise of a spicy murder mystery book was only half fulfilled.
The book was no good for me and I don’t understand all the hype about it on Booktok. At first I didn’t want to finish it, but after a two-week break I finally did. If you want to read this book just for the murder mystery, I wouldn’t recommend it.
But if you want to read a light, fast paced, grumpy x sunshine book, this could be the one for you.
