Lucinda Riley starts a journey into the crime genre, something entirely new for her fans.
Possibly the same with any author who tries to write in a different genre, you as a reader are reluctant to read these works because you have become accustomed to the author’s writing style and category.
I must confess, I was reluctant to read this crime novel right from the beginning and I asked myself how can a book, which may have been intended as a start of a new series compete with the seven Sisters series. Although I am not an avid reader of romantic novels, the seven Sisters got me hooked right from the start.
Already after 60 pages, I was immersed in the plot, a storyline full of secrets you couldn’t have imagined, but Lucinda Riley could. The more I progressed into the story the more I was convinced that the author is definitely capable of writing a crime novel. Despite the different category, the author’s well-known style of writing is visible, which makes it even more enjoyable to read it.
It seems as if Lucinda Riley really intended to create a new series, as the potential is apparent, but sadly there won’t be any follow-up, as the author died in 2021.
Everyone who intends to read it should give it a try, it’s absolutely worth it.
