TSVSSS Vol. 1 was such a fun read. It made me giggle, it made me say “awww” and “oh, that’s interesting” and left me wanting for more.
I’ve seen the donghua (animation) before the English translation was published and was eagerly awaiting the second season since they left us waiting with a cliffhanger (and SY/SQQ’s voice actor is great). And now with the novels I’ve got more than I originally had with the donghua. Even though i most certainly don’t get all the pop culture references, thanks to the translators’ footnotes some of them get an explanation. So TSVSSS isn’t only a LGBTQ+ story (note: a slow burn, which is always great) but also kind of a parody about transmigration stories, taking everything with a grain of salt, especially the oh so helpful system that should be of service to Shen Yuan/Shen Qingqiu. SY/SQQ bickering with the system almost never ceases no matter how dangerous the situation is. In summary: It definitly is a comedy.
But even though it’s amusing, regarding literary matters it also doesn’t disappoint. I thought it would be super easy but I still had to look up a few words. Nevertheless it’s a good read and has got a flowing style, which I enjoyed very much.
I’m looking forward to getting entertained by the second volume.
