Before reading Such a Fun Age I was in a bit of a reading slump. I started several books, but not one of them could convince me to continue reading and then I picked up this novel and it just intrigued me from the first chapter on.

In Such a Fun Age the author addresses important themes such as race/ racism, privilege as well as gender and social class. It’s done in an accessable way and the novel gave me a lot to think about.

However, i found it a bit problematic how weight/ body image was treated throughout the book. Alix, one of the main protagonists, struggles with her weight after two pregenancies, feeling too fat and her friends tell her that she absolutely has to lose these extra pounds in order to look good. I think this struggle could have been handled better/ reflected more upon.

Overall, I really enjoyed Such a Fun Age and in my opinion it lives up to the hype.
