Mhairi McFarlane is one of my all-time favourite authors.
Her heroines possess style, humor and more important – esprit.

Unfortunately, Harriet lacks that esprit.

While the story about gaslighting and the trauma that can ensue from it are very well written, I miss the “girl power” and the quick-witted sardonic dialogues that can be found in McFarlane’s other novels.
