With this book, the author offers us a personal and deep insight into her life as a member of FLDS, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Reading Rachel Jeff’s memoirs has genuinely shocked and mesmerized me to the core. I couldn’t believe that such congregations existed then and still are today. What possible choice do all those women have? They either accept and obey or have to atone in whatever way the so-called prophet sees fit.
I was impressed by how Rachel Jeff had found the courage to break free from this cult. It took many years to come to this decision but in the end, she finally got free.
I was wondering how many women are still kept in this cult, women who want to escape the abuse. How women and children are treated made me angry, and then to justify it as God’s will is terrible. They have their own laws and rules, even if it is illegal.
I hope all those women who have escaped could find a way back to a normal life, together with their children. And that there are more to follow.
An interesting but also shocking glimpse behind the impenetrable curtain of the secretive FLDS church.
If anyone is interested in more about FLDS in general, there is a documentary on Netflix right now '‘ keep sweet’'.
