The book, as well as the movies I have seen (in German and English), is very touching but also a bit disturbing. Particularly, the fact that it is based on a true incident from 1969 in Palo Alto, USA. While answering the question of why no one was willing to stand up against the Nazis in WWII, the book paints a powerful picture on group dynamics in high schools. Further, it shows how unwilling people are to rethink their actions and how willingly they follow a leader if initially they feel the purpose of the group is positive. I am convinced that even though we now know the outcome of this experiment, if it were conducted again the result would be the same.
