Sometimes you find a book, you read that book and you finally find the words in the right order. You finally find your thoughts written down in a language you understand. You finally understand your own thoughts and feelings. And this is the magic of books. “We are okay” is a YA Novel about grief, loss, loneliness and love. It’s a beautifully written story about how words sometimes fail us to communicate what we really need. And how time at some times the only thing is that brings us closer to ourselves and the people we love. I found myself in Marin, in her reaction to leave everything behind. The need of distance. In her grief of things she could have but never did. In this pitch black darkness where you sometimes find yourself and you understand how lonely you are. And maybe the most beautiful and soothing part of this book is the understanding that we are never alone with what we feel. It’s an universal language. The language of our soul. And maybe we should listen more to it and reach out more and let us all know that we are okay.

This is a young adult novel that will stick with me for a very long time. I really love how grief and loneliness, and also friendship and sexuality, are depicted here. It is so realistic and relatable and emotional. It definitely deserves the hype. And yes, it is more for the older young adults. Read it, read it, read it (if you haven’t already)!
