Hi everyone 👋
Although I’m Swiss, I’ve spent part of my childhood in London and originally learned to read and write in English. Meanwhile I’m a bit faster when reading in German, but I still prefer the English originals. The English language (especially the Britsh humour) is full of double entrendres, which don’t all work in German, so I actually believe that a part of the book gets lost.
If I specifically buy a new book, I choose the English version. German books I buy, when that’s the original, in an original language I don’t understand, or if it’s marked as “Mängelware” (in my mind defective books don’t count, that they let my SUB grow or that they’re in the “wrong” language, because I’m saving them 😅 does anyone else have a similar problem, with deceiving themselves?)
I’m always on the lookout for good British authors, as I still prefer British over American English. So if anyone has some recommendations…
Thriller/Crime is my favorite genre, so I like e.g. Simon Beckett, Ruth Ware, Val McDermid, but also the Americans Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, Alex Kava,…
