Der Titel klingt aussergewöhnlich und macht sehr neugierig. Gerne wäre ich bei dieser Leserunde dabei und hüpfe gleich in den Lostopf. 🙃

Der Titel provoziert und hat mich gefunden! Ich habe mich beruflich mit der jüdischen Geschichte und Kultur viel auseinandergesetzt - umso mehr bin ich sehr gespannt auf dieses Buch und wäre gerne bei der Leserunde dabei.

Da wär ich auch gerne dabei und wenn nicht werde ich mit das Buch auf jedenfall kaufen 🍀

Ich fand das Buch leider ebenfalls manchmal etwas schwer zu lesen, jedoch interessiert mich die Psychologie hinter den Figuren sehr. Ich finde die Beziehungen zwischen den Personen (wie z.B. Adam und seine Vater) sehr spannend.

Zum dritten Teil hatte ich mich bereits geäussert, mir hat das Buch insgesamt sehr gut gefallen.

Ich bin Montag live dabei und freue mich sehr darauf, was der Autor über das Buch erzählt. Bei Lesungen dabei zu sein und Autoren kennenzulernen, hat das Lesen für mich positiv verändert. Daher bin ich sehr gespannt, ob das online und schriftlich den gleichen Effekt hat.

Im dritten Teil kam ich mit dem Schreibstil des Autora besser zurecht und musste auch einige male schmunzeln. Trotzdem hat mir leider ein „packender“ roter Faden gefehlt. Mit dem Wissen des biografischen Hintergrunds ist es natürlich klar, dass nicht ein selber Plottwist wie in einer erfundenen Geschichte vorhanden ist. Deshalb würde es mich ebenfalls interessieren, ob tatsächlich das meiste so wie im Buch geschah oder ob vieles hinzugeschrieben wurde.

They wanted to know how much of the book is fact and fiction. Are there any parts that didn’t happen the way you wrote them? 🙂

So, really the whole book is true. I had to put a disclaimer at the start of the book as I changed the name of my mother and sister. Really, everything that happened in the book happened in real life. I suppose, though, because a lot of other things happened that are not in the book, it’s really a curated story. I put the things in that served the story I wanted to tell. I could probably write a different story that covered the same years that didn’t even mention autographs that would also be true

Lika How did you feel while walking down memory lane to remember your childhood, teenage years and all the moments in between until being an adult?

It was actually very emotional book for me to write. And when I read it and edited it afterwards, I also found that a very emotional experience. My childhood was not altogether quite as funny as it appears on the page. I found being a child quite difficult in many ways, so it was also exciting — I’d even say quite healing — to be able to give my child-self a voice, written through the lens of adulthood. But it was also quite a strange experience to write about a path from childhood to adulthood in such a condensed way. Using the autographs as chapter headings was quite helpful in this respect, as it was a useful way to organise my growing up years

I have actually written half of another book, which is a ‘Memoir Part Two’. It begins in my later twenties, and will continue through to 2021. At the moment, my editor is reading that first half, so fingers crossed she likes it!

Lika Is there any place left for music in your current life?

When I started writing, 20 years ago or so, I gradually stopped practising the piano so much. I felt guilty and quite sad for a while, as if there was something missing from my life. But as I got more and more into writing, I felt as though I was translating my talents from one area to another, and nowadays I don’t feel sad anymore about letting go of the piano. I can still play, but not quite as well as when I was 20 years old.

Fanny Have you kept any of the autographs? Which autograph(s) are you most proud of?

When I was in my twenties, I really killed off the collecting instinct in myself. Someone told me that you can’t be a collector and a dealer at the same time (you keep the best items) — also, I was rather put off collecting by seeing how crazy so many of the collectors were, my father included! So I stopped collecting. However, I still have the autographs I collected as a child, which I have kept more for reasons of nostalgia. So, my letters from Katharine Hepburn and Mother Teresa, for instance. And the autographs I got in the mail from Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Charles Schulz and many others. I kept all of those!

Fifi989 Are you and your childhood friend Adam still friends or in contact?

Yes! Adam Brichto and I are still in touch. We don’t see each other very often, but when we meet it’s as if no time has passed at all. His father, who sadly passed away some years ago now, was the rabbi at my wedding in 2005! Adam and his mother both came to my book launch in 2021 to celebrate with me!
