The first time I read this book (March 2020) I was kind of disappointed with it. I mean, it is widely beloved and I just had these really big expectations. Also, I was only a little bit older than Charlie, but I could not at all relate to him even though I thought I would, because I heard from so many people that as an introverted person you would relate to him. And I didn’t. This month, i read The Perks of Being a Wallflower again and not only did I like it a lot more than two years ago, so that I added one star to the rating… funnily I also related more to Charlie! The novel deals with many important topics that (sadly) are still relevant today. I liked the writing too, however, sometimes I thought that a sixteen-year-old would express himself a little more mature than Charlie at times. All in all, I am glad to have reread The Perks of Being a Wallflower and now came to understand the meaning and value it holds for so many readers out there.
