Eine schwere Entscheidung! Müsste ich ein Lieblingsbuch wählen, wäre es aber definitiv “As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow” von Zoulfa Katouh.

I couldn’t quite keep up with the reading pace for the first part. But as soon as I continued, I read the rest of the book without putting it down a single time.
I was shocked by the fact that Layla had already died 5 months ago and so Salima’s brain had just run a protective mechanism that enabled her to maintain rational thinking. Salimas trauma must be severe and deep-anchored and I find the role of Khawf as an embodiment of that excellent. I totally ship Salima and Kenan. However, I have not been aware (or simply forgotten) of the fact that Salima hasn’t yet reached the age of 20 and is already married. But that has of course to do with her culture.
Even though the war in Syria is nothing new to us, unfortunately, this book is in some way eye-opening, or at least to me. I will definitely recommend Zoulfa Katouh’s story to my friends.
Ahh, mine has arrived too. Love the feeling of the book cover and the colours.
