I also has to go back to the book to see where part 2 was: I was so curious at the end of this part that I just had to keep going. I think in part 2 we can really get an idea of a day-to-day in a war/violent scenario. It is at the same time good and heart breaking to realize that life has a way to go on - even if the moments of “normal” life in the characters are then balanced with the realization that the context in which they find themselves is everything but normal.
This second part has shown me as well the importance of all the other characters to Salama and her survival. It somehow shows me that a person is not only a person but everyone that supports and is part of her life.
Maybe on the downside, I found that the hospital descriptions were a bit repetitive. However I am not sure if this was intentional, to show that every day seems the same under these circumstances.
Can’t wait to discuss the last part of the book!
MDSOMA It was the same for me: the writing style is amazing, but the story is hard to read, especially knowing the history of the region. I do find the characters likable and I can identify myself with their reactions to hard choices (staying vs leaving). I am curious about what will happen next, even though I expect that this book will break my heart…
I am so happy to be participating!
looking forward to reading the book and to discussing it with everyone!
