In this rather well known classic Oscar Wilde paints a picture of his pompous protagonist Dorian Grey, that inspired quite a few other novels and maybe draws its own inspiration from Gogols short story The Portrait.
It is a well written and well thought out story about vice and virtue and shines in its many philosophical dialogs throughout the novel - the reader follows the many doubts of Dorian as he descends deeper into madness and explores the consequences of immorality through the medium of a mysterious physical reflection of his soul.
Some passages deliver quite a shock and the story leaves the reader in a weird state of questioning his own views on morality, while simultaniously beeing enriched by the luxorious scenery presented.
And while not the easiest read, it is definitly worth it.
