I’m weirdly disappointed by this book. I had huge expectations and they weren’t met. I liked the plot. It was interesting enough. But I didn’t connect with any of the characters and their voices at all. Sera felt very juvenile and I just didn’t care for any of her interactions with Ransom. Same goes for the interactions with her friends. All of it felt stilted to me.
Supposedly they are master thieves and all of their heists somehow go wrong. They always forget their magical cloaks and it just doesn’t matter (so if other people find them lying around that’s just totally fine?)
Ransom is supposedly such a good assassin but Sera is besting him constantly with barely any training. The way the first love interest was treated rubbed me the wrong way too. So much just didn’t work for me. And the dual pov just wasn’t it. So much gets repeated because it.
I’m almost angry that I’ve already bought the second book because now I feel like I’m obligated to read it even though I don’t really want to. 😅
