I have mixed feelings about this book. I can see why people love it. The writing is good, the settings and descriptions are accurate and well chosen and the characters multi-layered. I was completely absorbed in Addie’s life from the very start and the concept of the invisible yet eternal life fascinated me. It makes you think about the value of life, and I became more aware of the little traces and memories that I leave behind. It’s also very good for a new life crisis.
However, I can also understand why some people don’t like it. For me, after the halfway point, it became repetitive. Once you understand the concept, it’s repeated over and over again, which I found boring.
Overall, though, I liked the story and the ending was heart-wrenching in the best way.
It’s for those who sometimes feel like life is too short. Those who want to learn every language, play every instrument, and read every existing book, but who feel overwhelmed by all the options and the limited time available.
