It could have been so good.
The Salem Witch Trials are such an interesting and horrible part of history and this graphic novel is well researched. I loved, loved, loved the artstyle, the darkness and occasional use of colors. But sadly, it was nearly unreadable for me. At times, there was so much text squeezed into the pages which made it unenjoyable to read. The layout and font made it even worse, I had to zoom in a lot to read it. The parts with actual handwriting were the worst. And with around 500 pages, it’s too much of all that.
The story itself and Giles and Martha’s storyline, altough interesting, was a bit repetetive at times, especially the first trials. I know it is to show the amount of people that were accused of being witches and the ridiculousness of it but still, it felt like reading the same page over and over again. It was tiresome.
For a graphic novel, it was way too long with may too much information squished into it. If I wanted walls of text, I’d read a novel.
