M. W. Craven is back with Tilly and Poe and had me on the edge of my seat from page 1. He does what he is best at: switching perspectives and timelines, cleverly working with suspense, cliffhangers, surprising and sometimes shocking twists and turns, and combining a thrilling murder series with details, details, details. Details of British daily life, of police procedures, on shooting, and of British politics, this time focusing on the work of MI5.
Craven used less cliffhangers this time, which I enjoyed. We spent more time with well-known characters, though Estelle Doyle has lost some of her depth since book five. Oh yes: Craven starts “The final vow” with a spoiler alert, and rightly so. If possible, please read the series in its original order.
I was wonderfully entertained throughout the whole book and can’t wait for the series to continue.
