A creative Persephone retelling that is about her own choices, taking matters into her own hands and deciding what happens next. She’s determined, smart and fierce. On her way to independence she meets Hades. I think this was the sweetest, most lovable version of the god of the underworld I have ever read and I loved it! I really enjoyed the characters, the overall changes of the narrative and the focus on Persephone. What I didn’t like as much was the romance. I love a good slow burn, but never when it’s stretched out by miscommunication. Please. And if we direct our attention to the title real quick, we realize that maybe we didn’t need such a strong romantic focal point in the first place. Also I feel like the book in general was a bit too long. Maybe fewer chapters, but more concise ones would have been better. It was a fun read with good ideas and amazing characters that unfortunately lacked that gripping, well-crafted storyline which would have kicked those three stars up to five.
