It’s a cute YA romance with mervolk that comes with all the anticipated problems. The fantastic elements lack consistency, the little information we do have is overexplained, more complex themes are kept superficial because it would be too much for the YA genre and the occasional cringe cannot be avoided. But there are some very cute scenes between the two main characters. I love the queer rep and the body positivity. Sean became one of my favorite characters and I want everybody to protect him at all cost. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Ross who was a rather irritating person. And even though the story was cute, there were a few plot points I didn’t like (what’s up with the cheating?) and I’m very unsatisfied with the ending. It was okay but I expected more.
