The grand finale of the biggest case everyone in Natchez has been waiting for. It’s all about the trial of Cage’s father who is accused of murder. That’s where the main focus lies in this book. The time of hiding secrets is over, and it’s up to the jury to decide who is lying and who is telling the truth.
I thought I knew every secret in and around Natchez, I was mistaken. The author still surprises me with his suspenseful style, the strong characters and not lastly the campfire-like tales of the past. Many subjects come together in this book, and a little recap of what happened is included which I find convenient to refresh the memories. Confrontation between people of different races, corruption and crime, it’s all in here. It is all packed into an amazing story that has gripped me from page one. Greg Iles knows how to write about a trial.
