Patroclus, a somewhat awkward prince, exiled from his hometown, gets to know Achilles in his new home and over the years, they become companions and lovers, their bond incredibly deep. When Helen of Troy is abducted, Achilles has to decide - a long life or honor and fame. He chooses fame of course, and Patroclus follows him to take over Troy.
I must say, I was a bit sceptic at first. Retellings sometimes add fictional things to them and I’m not a big fan of that. But this one is wonderful. There is no “nonsense” , you can tell Madeline Miller knows her stuff. And not just that, Miller’s writing is so, so beautiful. Altough I knew how the story would end, it didn’t make it less sad. I think I’ll have to add this to my favorite books. I loved everything about it!
For everyone whon is a fan of greek mythology, wonderful words and love.
