You need to be in a good place if you want to read this book, because it hurts. It truly does. The pain, the desperation, the hopelessness – everything feels so real. It breaks your heart over and over again, and to know that even though this isn’t a real story it might as well could be is devastating. But all the horrors and trauma aside, this book is also filled with love, friendship and trust. It shows that people can be either the worst or the best thing in your life.
This book is a masterpiece. The writing, the story structure, the characters, all the emotions this book forces you to go through. It’s been a long time since a story had me this invested, that got me to care so deeply for its protagonists. To accompany these characters through their lives felt so incredibly real. I don’t know how she did it, but this is how life feels like. It is as if she took life itself, squeezed it and let its essence pour right into her writing. I thought so much about this book and I think I will for a long time. Such a powerful story that will hold a very special place in my heart, always.
Read it if you dare.
