I was so excited for this book! It sounded so promising, the mystery around Hartwood Hall, placed in the 1850s, a governess discovering its secrets…
But no. It was quite boring. Here and there were glimpses of the books potential, the atmosphere and actual spooky things and secrets. And then, nothing for a while again. The MC kept being gaslighted by her love interest, nothing is wrong, there are no secrets, when in fact, she sees figues and does hear sounds. And when I had around 60 pages left, still nothing was uncovered and at that point I wasnt even invested anymore. At least some characters were likeable, so thats something.
