Everyone who knows the series The Mentalist will recognize a resemblance, it only plays in Sweden. A mentalist is asked to support an investigative team to solve a high-priority case. Not everyone on the team sees his expertise as a substantial value, but Mina Dabiri believes in him and together they are on the hunt.
At the start, I didn’t think that two completely different characters can work together, but they can. Maybe that was the author’s intention, to create something unprecedented, not the usual team of investigators. Mina and Vincent appear relatively at ease with each other, despite their personal difficulties. The potential for a future work relationship is there.
Another point that I liked was that the authors revealed nothing about where it might be heading, only so much to keep you interested. The well-placed twists and turns are unexpected in a satisfying way.
Writing a fascinating story comprises one part, but also important is all the background you have to research so that it all fits together. In my opinion, the authors have done a great job of setting all those pieces into context. A great kick-off for a new series.
I’m delighted that soon there will be a new case for Mina and Vincent to solve, coming soon this year.
