In Bitter Harvest, the author Ann Rule presents the case of Deborah Green, a successful doctor, loving wife, and mother in Kansas. What seemed like an exemplary life, the American dream ended in destruction. No one could have foreseen it. And for everyone involved, nothing will ever be the same again. Ann Rule portrays an elaborate picture of Deborah Green, a most gruesome tragic story. In some parts, I couldn’t believe those events had happened. I enjoy the author’s style of writing she is extremely capable of transforming a genuine case into a captivating story.
Even after reading this novel, I keep thinking about the people affected by what she did. What if more people had reacted earlier, Deborah Green would have received the help she needed, and the lives lost could have been avoided.
We primarily see documentaries about serial killers, but crime can also happen in families or neighbors, which is forgotten too quickly.
This incredible story invokes us to be more aware of what happens around us. That just one call to the local authorities may preserve lives.
