This book was a lot of fun. I’ve read it in my holidays in Amsterdam and to be honest… I didn’t even buy it. Let me explain: I’ve heard a lot about this on tiktok, so I was really excited to read it. Now, imagine, me in my holidays in a really nice bookshop (The American Book Center, I really recommend it), finding this book. I just sat down in the café to get the first chapter in to see if I’m interested. Well, fast forward, I’m sitting there, 200 pages read. So yes, it really captured my interest. In the end, I went back to my hostel without the book, because somebody (me) already bought enough books in my time there and I really wasn’t able to fit any more in my suitcase (might even broke said suitcase because it was too heavy). Anyways, I’ve downloaded the e-book as soon as I was back and finished it on the same day.
This romance takes place on a cooking show, where our maincharacter, Nina Lyon, a chef is a cohost of a cooking show. There, she co-moderates with her enemy, Leo O’Donnell, a business man who owns a chain of restaurants comperable with Olive Garden. Leo tends to really get under Ninas skin with how he makes her look and after he is really mean to her, live on air, she quits. As a female chef in a world full of men (92% of men) she is the target of many sexist comments and already had to close two of her three restaurants. Now, with her suddenly quitting, her sales skyrocket, but who knows how long. After Leo tries to get her back on the show, they get caught in a compromising situation and decide to fake-date to save their restaurants. While they get closer, Nina learns that there is a reason for Leos mean comments. And Leo learns that Nina isn’t made of ice.
I really liked their chemistry, because it feels like a grump/sunshine, but here, the man is the «sunshine» and the woman is the «grump». I was able to feel with Nina, because once upon a time, in a land far, far away, I did a technical apprenticeship. Maybe some of you can also relate, who knows. What made this book a ⅘ for me was the fact that I didn’t really understood the quarrel at the end? That was a real mystery to me. But otherwise, I was able to laugh a lot during this book and I really enjoyed it.
