This well written, funny children’s book had me in stitches as the central character ‘Wahoo’ tries to keep his family afloat when they run into financial difficulties. Accepting an offer from a tv company which makes exciting animal documentaries, Wahoo has to keep his Dad inline, the fake Steve Irwin wannabe presenter from killing himself and their precious animals all whilst being stalked by his runaway friend’s very dangerous father. It is a lot for a fourteen year old boy to do. Carl Hiassen is a master story teller and the adventure romps along with attention to detail and a clear love and respect for animals and his native Florida. My surprise pick of the year!
