The Law of innocence is Michael Connelly’s recent work about the Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller. Haller is found guilty after the police find a dead body in his car’s trunk. As an attorney himself, he knows the law and his only goal is to prove his innocence and find who is behind the murder.
An attorney defending someone in court is nothing new. In this novel, the author takes it one step further. When a lawyer is defending himself, he plays a dangerous game. On the other hand, that’s exactly what makes the story more interesting.
Even if the outcome seems devastating, in the end, all that matters is how good both sides can present their pieces of evidence.
It was a real pleasure to read the story with such a detailed plot. I very much enjoyed reading it because I never had the feeling that the story was too long. The construction gives an agreeable distraction to the main plot. One might think that a story about a case and court hearing is long-winded, should think again. A court hearing might seem boring, but not in the Law of innocence. In my opinion, you dive right into it, as you would sit in the courtroom.
Right from the start, I had the feeling that this book won’t disappoint me. The way the author tells the story shows me that. Law is not an easy topic, especially for a layperson. But still, I’ve never lost the flow, the interesting explanations made it easy to follow. I’m impressed at how Haller never loses his confidence, never gives up even when the case circumstances change. Throughout the book, you feel the strength, and it keeps up the pace, holds you in his grip. I would say that the end was unexpected but suitable, I’m satisfied with how the author handles the conclusion. I would have liked to read more about the case development in the future, some questions are in my opinion still unanswered.
An informative read expands the knowledge about the legal system, the author offers a view behind the scene. Makes for interesting reading. Thriller lovers get their money’s worth.
