Two friends of mine have recommended Agatha Christie to me independently of each other. Naturally, I had to check her books out.
“Unfortunately” I had watched the new ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ film before reading the book which took away some of the “shock value” in the end.
Still, I LOVED this story very much! Her writing style is right up my alley, and I really vibe with her use of minimal description of places. Because even if there’s not much to go on, she writes the rest around it so well that you automatically picture the different settings and scenes.
She knows what she writes (as this style wouldn’t work with Fantasy) and delivers beautifully!
As I don’t want to spoiler anyone by giving away too much I’ll just say that I was AMAZED at the way she placed the snippets that later turned into evidence - which none of them I could’ve figured out (safe one, maybe).
One thing that stood out in a less ‘all positive’ way was her use of stereotypes in regards to the different nationalities. BUT, I know that this was a different time then, it was a way of writing which people enjoyed, and it didn’t take away very much of my reading experience. Hence my 5-star rating.
If you are a fan of the genre ‘Mystery’ then I heartily recommend this book. Even if you haven’t read any Mystery yet and are trying to dip your toes in I would say this story lends itself perfectly for that.
