I can’t wait to read a new novel by Donna Leon every time. This is already the tenth case for Guido Brunetti, but the author has lost none of her strength, she always manages to fascinate the reader.
The setting, in this case, is an island in the Venetian lagoon, and I found it appealing that the story in this book is not set in Venice itself. In this way, you get to know something new in a geographical sense.
How difficult will it be for the detective to solve a case if the people on the island are suspicious of him? They don’t care for strangers and certainly won’t reveal the murderer. Brunetti is confronted with forces that put him and his colleagues in danger. Sudden circumstances demand all his police skills to keep him and the ones he cares about safe.
In my opinion, a successful case, written in the usual style. A plot that keeps you spellbound until the end. Even if the characters are familiar, it is not boring to read on and follow how they develop. Everything fits together well, even the many culinary delicacies and geographical locations are perfectly inserted.
A successful crime novel for all Donna Leon fans, those who want to become fans or for all others who want to get a taste of Venetian culture.
