The Paladin’s god is dead. Just this sentence alone made me pick up this book, because I’ve never read anything like it. And I had a wonderful time!
It’s a mostly cosy, very romantic slice of life story in which our two main characters are pulled into some pretty serious events. And I loved Stephen and Grace so much! It was very refreshing to read a fantasy novel with characters in their 30s. Grace being a perfumer was a delight for me since I haven’t read much with people in this profession. They both have their struggles and trauma, but they work on them and we get to see some good character development. The sidecharacters and plot round it up into something funny, sometimes serious and dark and a little creepy. My only complaint is that some things felt wrapped up too quickly and I wished for more of those eerie vibes, since T. Kingfisher is so good with those.
There are other books in this series with different charatcers from “Paladin’s Grace” but you can easily read this as a standalone.
