DrQuinzel It took me quite some time to read the whole second part. Even though I read in English regularly and do not have trouble with the language, I feel like I am a lot slower with this book - don’t know why though, because I really enjoy reading it - it’s really thrilling!
Even though we now know who Nina is, I feel like there was something that drove Nina, Edward and Isabel apart as well and I’m wondering if it was “just” their divorce or if there is something else to come.
Concerning Amy, I honestly didn’t understand her leaving the restaurant (and the country) as a break up - more like giving up that he would accept her support - I only understood they split up, when Edward said so himself. For me, this whole scene / part of the book was a bit too fast and I cannot relate nor feel much sympathy for either of them both. I’m not sure about Edward and Isabel still having a chance, on the other hand I feel like they never fully broke up - at least not emotionally.
I can understand Edward talking to Patrick to protect Nina - I think he feels like (or maybe is) some kind of father figure to Nina and the thought of Patrick harassing her with his questions was too much to bear for Edward…
What I really couldn’t believe in this second part was the audacity of Nigels daughter, coming into court and telling his victims about how good a person he was on the days he decided not to be an absolute psychopath… Good for Isabel, that she was able to throw her rage in the daughters face by telling her that Nigel was a murderer and rapist, when reading this part, I felt like it gave Isabel some sort of satisfaction.
Enidan1995Nadine Lastly there is definitely something else going on, with edwards clothes being laid out like that. I am excited to see how the story continues!
yes, this part also doesn’t let me go! It can’t be Nigel, for he obviously is in custody - up to now, nothing points to him having an accomplices. I’m really excited to read along as well!
Saarah_ While in the first part I still thought it was primarily about the crimes, I believe the book is about showing how a relationship can develop after such a tragic event.
I really like this point of view - this is also fitting with the aspect, that the crimes are described in as much detail as necessary to understand its cruelty, but not in further detail (which I really like about the book!). And as Saarah_ also states, I also thought of Amys’ role as disappointing and it didn’t add much to the story for me (up to now - who knows what happens in part three).
Edeltraut Many characters and relationships are introduced with almost no context,
during and after the first part, I struggled with this a lot as well - the second part helped me untangle the “relationship net” of the book though and with that, I also find it a lot easier to read (I’m not really faster with reading though, lol)
Veeni I don’t really care for the other characters, other than Etta.
same for me - Etta is the only character to whom I really feel some kind of connection. Her impatience that night, when she almost caught Nigel, annoyed me (even though I could understand it). She only had to wait a moment longer and her backup could have blocked Nigel’s escape routes, what a missed opportunity that was, and risking her life like that, also showed how desperate to catch him she was at that point.
