She Is a Haunting is a creepy novel that I truly loved, especially for its setting. The incorporation of Vietnam’s present and past was wonderful. The exploration of the history of colonialism in Vietnam adds depth and meaning to the haunting itself. The horror does not shy away from darkness or even gore.
Spoiler warning: beware of bugs!
The novel works well for readers who enjoy haunted houses, ghosts, and stories about immigrant families, colonialism, and identity. The book’s atmosphere makes it a memorable read for those seeking something darker and different.
