I am thrilled to see how many of you like to read books in English.
So do I. I think it would be great to get and give tips on what to
read next.
Books in English
Oh, you will be getting used to it and you’ll understand more and more. I’ll look through my books and will make a list of the ones interesting to swap. Just be patient,I’ll need some time.
Thanks for mentioning Richard Osman’s book “The Thursday Murder Club”. Actually, I am not fond of criminal literature at all and although I was a student in Donna Leon’s Book Class for more than 10 years I don’t read criminal stories. Donna Leon’s Class took place in a small village in the Wallis and we learnt a lot about writing and reading books in general. Of course, we also heard much about her own criminal books but they were not the topic of the course.
One of my favourite English books is “Mothering Sunday” by Graham Swift.

I think it’s exciting if we get a list and have a good choice to select from. After the month of August I’ll have more time. So keep in touch!
and will try to add more books to my list
I read a lot of books in English. “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig was just great. But I also love crime stories in English.
It would be interesting to exchange recommendations here.
I read English or German alike. the next I will read ist godspeed by Nickolas Butler, as it has no german publisher at the moment, I love everything that Nickolas Butler writes. I loved the English Book Store by Orellfüssli in Zürich, unfortunately now there is a Zara home there….
ruzu27 Hey, i am a big fan of all the Shadowhunter-Books from Cassandra Clare. yet i haven’t read them all in english. i am currently on her serie “The Infernal Devices” and i can really recommend them
Hello, I just discovered your „inner circle“ and I would like to recommend the book I just finished yesterday: „The Scentmaker“ by Erica Bauermeister. I really enjoyed it a lot and couldn‘t put it down! It reminded me of „Where the Crawdads Sing“, another lovely novel. Looking forward to seeing/reading more of you! )
Hey everyone
Inspired by “Wanderbuchpaket” that @Phantasia8 organizes, we would like to start sharing our English books the same way. This is how it works:
I put some used English books and a list with the addresses of everyone participating in a box and send it to the first address. If you get the box, you take out as many books as you like to keep and put the same amount of books you’re ready to give away into the box. Then you send the box to the next address. Like that, our read books can bring someone else pleasure and we get new books for free. :-)
If you’d like to participate, join the group: https://bookcircle.orellfuessli.ch/d/28163-english-book-sharing
ruzu27 I prefer to read books in the original language (English or German) so I almost always read books in English. I often think that the translations sound weird or that details can‘t be described as well in a translation.
As mentioned I also really liked the Midnight Library from Matt Haig. If you like fantasy books and want to start reading them in English I really liked Fourth Wing (it was my first English fantasy book and I understood everything).
