Clover Hill has a scholarship to the prestigious Camford University to study magic, a course she has been determined to follow since her brother was cursed while fighting at the front in the First World War. She quickly falls in with a group of students, magical aristocrats at the university. A mythical and magical story full of faerie curses, friendships, and quests for forbidden knowledge - and its consequences.
This reminded me a bit of “Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell” and a bit of the Emily Wilde series. I love a good academia novel and this one, in a version of our own world, was captivating. Like R.F. Kuang’s Babel, it revealed a darker side to the institutions we honour. It plays well with the bargains and darker side of Faerie and the worldbuilding was really fantastic.
