When Noemí Taboada receives a rambling letter from her newly-wed cousin, where she talks of hearing voices and being poisoned by her new family in-law, Noemí decides to check up on her cousin herself. In the small mining town high up in the mountains she finds a life very different from her exciting life in Mexico City. Noemí’s cousin married into English family who’s wealth comes from their silver mines. As soon as she arrives Noemí starts having very strange dreams and only after time she discovers the family’s dark secret and learns the truth about her cousin’s condition.
A very atmospheric and dreadful novel set in the 1950s that gets more and more exciting towards the end.
