The Nightingale is a story about two french sisters in the second world war. The sisters couldn’t be more different from each other, and therefore you have to stories in the books, following both lives parallel. While the main part of the book was difficult to get through at times, I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know who the woman from the beginning was. The story was built such, that the reader gets the first imput from 1995 which is followed by the story of the war. The mystery of which sister it must be, kept me going, and by the end, everything fell into place in such a moving way that there was even a tear or two.
Kristin Hannah’s writing brings struggle and resilience of the characters to life. Although it was heavy at times, i am happy that i finished the book. It was truely a beatiful story which could have been a bit more compact.
