Growing up with Harry Potter, I thought maybe it’s time to give this very different series a chance. And I am so glad I did!
Percy thinks he’s just a troubled boy with ADHD and dyslexia that gets kicked out of schools all the time. Sometimes weird things happen around him but luckily his weird best friend Grover is by his side. And then Percy learns that there is a some sort of camp for half-bloods, as in half human, half god and he is one of them and the weird things start to make a lot more sense…
It’s so entertaining, even if it’s a kids book! I really appreciate Riordans way of bringing greek mythology into this. It’s very close to the actual thing, just a bit washed down to make it more suitable for kids. I’ve read far worse fantasy with greek mythologie but The Lightning Thief is just so good. And the humor! I chuckled so often at some of the jokes and lines.
One of my favorite quotes: “Once I got over the fact that my Latin teacher was a horse, we had a nice tour, though I was careful not to walk behind him.”
Even though some things were quite obvious, I still wanted to keep reading and knowing how it will all end and now i’m already at book 2.
